Class Descriptions

RED BALL (ages 5-6)
This program is the ideal entry point for players in this age range. Students will be working on several "pre-rally" skills and fundamental tennis reactions. Our staff will encourage cooperative partner training and independent game play.

Tuition
  • 1-Day - $75/member; $100/non-member

RED BALL (ages 7-9)
This program welcomes both beginner players of the 7- and 8-year old age range as well as graduates of our younger program. In these classes, students will continue to explore the rhythm of the rally as well as basic mechanical technique. Players with the desire to compete and the ability to rally and serve will be asked to play Junior Team Tennis in the Fall and Spring sessions.

ORANGE BALL (ages 7-11)
This program continues the students' development into a more comprehensive set of rally skills and highlights for "5 Competitive Situations" - (1)rally, (2)attacking the net, (3)responding to a net attacker, (4)serving, and (5)returning. Players will be encouraged to participate in Junior Team Tennis as well as explore entry-level USTA tournament competition. Advanced 7- and 8-year old students are welcome given evaluative approval. 11-year old students who can benefit from extended time in orange ball may also participate. This is not a beginner program and beginner students 10-years and older should enter our Intro to Tennis programs.

GREEN & YELLOW BALL (tournament Green Ball through early teens entry-level competitive)
This program welcomes players with a solid rally foundation with the goal of deepening their competitive skill sets. We will highlight the "5 Competitive Situations" - (1)rally, (2)attacking the net, (3)responding to a net attacker, (4)serving, and (5)returning. Players will be encouraged to participate in Junior Team Tennis as well as explore entry-level USTA tournament competition. Players who have earned the "green ball" distinction through USTA Texas tournament play will train in this group. Players using a yellow ball through the early teens are also a great fit for this program. All will be encouraged to participate in Junior Team Tennis and entry-level tournament play. This is not a beginner program and beginner students 10-years and older should enter our Intro to Tennis programs.

INTRO TO TENNIS 1.0 (Red Ball Training - Beginner Players 10+)
Players new to tennis will enter our Intro to Tennis program and the 1.0 level. In this program, players will begin their initial training in rally play. Once players have achieved rally competency in the Intro to Tennis 1.0 environment, they may progress to Intro to Tennis 2.0.

INTRO TO TENNIS 2.0 (Orange Ball Training - Beginner Players 10+)
Players with primary rally competency but still learning to manage a full-court situation are perfect for our Intro to Tennis 2.0 program. Additionally, graduates of our Intro to Tennis 1.0 program will advance to this class. Once players achieve rally competency in this environment, we will encourage them to join either the Orange Ball or Green/Yellow Ball training programs as is suitable.

Michael McVay, Director of 10U Tennis

Mike was born & raised in Flint, Michigan. He graduated from the University of Michigan with a B.A. in English & Political Science. He then went on to receive his Masters of Public Affairs from the University of Texas. Mike works as Director of Junior Tennis for RippnerTennis for 8 years before coming to The Polo Tennis Club. He is the current Vice President of Capital Area Tennis Association and is a member of the USTA Texas Junior Council. Mike was recognized as the CATA 10-and-under Professional of the Year in 2017.
